How to Use This Factor Calculator

Factor Formulas and Practical Applications

Factors are the building blocks for simplifying fractions, finding GCF/LCM, and deciding whether a number is prime. The tool uses trial division up to √N—the standard pencil-and-paper approach, automated.

Trial division

Test divisors from 1 through √N. When N ÷ d is whole, both d and N ÷ d are factors. For 12, try 1, 2, 3 and collect 12, 6, 4—stop after √12 ≈ 3.46.

Prime factorization
